Alarm clock overheats, damages 100yr old Holmen WI home
Thursday, January 10th, 2008The five members of a Holland family are putting their lives back together after a Jan. 2 fire in their turn-of-the-century home.
The fire at the Niccum family home at N8498 Hwy. 53 started in an upstairs bedroom and was confined to that bedroom. No one was injured in the blaze, but there was significant smoke damage through the upper level of the home as well as water damage to the ceiling of the kitchen below the bedroom due to efforts to put out the fire by the Holmen Fire Department.

Sharon’s husband, Dennis, who was at work at the time, said the firefighters thought it was started by an alarm clock that had overheated because it was buried under bedding. The heat caused the bedding to catch fire and spread to the curtains and went upwards, he said.

I had a friend whose clock/radio smoke damaged his entire “terrace level” (basement buildout). That’s one of the reasons I developed this power strip to prevent these kinds of fires.
